The ERICA-SA project looks at genetic susceptibility, lifestyle risk factors and infectious agents, using 20k African cancer patients from the Johannesburg Cancer study.
Aims – do good science, enhance research capacity in S Africa.

Wenlong Carl Chen, @Phried_fonix @SBIMB, presents his #GWAS of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma – first such study in Africa, where this cancer has a high prevalence. Trans-ancestry meta-analysis of African and Chinese GWAS ids 3 hits /4
Mahtaab Hayat @mahtaabhayal has been performing the first #breastcancer GWAS in South African black populations. Looking for novel loci and transferability across populations. /5
Abram Kamiza has performed a GWAS in SA black populations with cervical cancer, looking at host genetic factors in addition to HPV infection.
