Recently @AliAbdaal did a video about 21 tips he would give his 18-year old self.

Here is my list.

//A Thread//
1. Focus on building connections.

Connections will lead to more opportunities to work (and play) together.

It will open doors you didn't even realize existed.
2. Work on building skills high leverage skills

Focus on skills that can potentially leverage your career or personal life.
3. Be a better observer in life.

This goes about emotions.

This goes about your successes and failures.

This goes about everything.

Observe, analyze and document in order to know what to change.
4. Practice daily meditation.

Meditation will help you to increase your focus, energy and mental clarity.

One of the most useful skills to practice.
5. Focus on energy management instead of time management.

Energy is the real currency in life.

You should focus on how to turn this currency into gold.
6. Practice spaced repetition and active recall.

Most study techniques like highlighting and rereading are not efficient.

Spaced repetition and active recall are the techniques you want to spend most of your time at.
7. Be willing to speak up.

Speak up when you want to be heard.

Don't be shy.

Opening the discussion, is the best way to get to know more about a topic or about other people.
8. Go in a student organization and take on an active role.

This will teach you a lot about leadership and responsibility.

Two important aspect to work on for the future.
9. Get into weight lifting.

This is great for building a greater physique, gaining more confidence and getting to know how to use your body.

And it is the ideal age to start with this good habit.
10. Start investing.

It is never too early to invest.

At 18 you should pick up a book about investing.

And then you should invest as much as possible.

Use compound interest in its full benefit.
11. Read more books on different topics.

Widen your horizon. Broaden your perspective.

Reading different books is the ideal way to do so.

It is time always well spent.
12. Get into therapy when you feel mentally bad.

If you are suffering mentally, then there is nothing wrong with getting in therapy.

It is the highest and most essential form of self-care.
13. Document your life.

Keep a journal.

Take more photographs.

Film more often.

Life is short. Moments pass really quickly.

Try to keep a snap-shot of each of them before they pass away.
14. Take more smart notes.

Be more mindful about taking lecture notes.

Don't regurgitate but deeply care about understanding.

Your notes are an example of your own thinking, not of the thinking of the professor.
15. Learn how to cook.

This pays off on multiple levels.

You save money.

You can eat more healthy food.

It is a great stress reliever.

You can show your love towards others with it.
16. Learn how to code.

This is not an universal tip.

But I think understanding how computer, websites etc. work is a true leverage.

A leverage that can save you time and costs, especially when you want to start a business.
17. Go more on spontaneous trips with friends

Be more joyful in your younger years.

Not everything needs to be planned.

Be willing to go with the flow and enjoy yourself.
18. See university as a team effort.

You have to build connections in university.

These people are not there to become your competitors.

You want to learn how to work together with them.

And help each other to become better.
19. Start to learn a music instrument.

Music is one of these things that bonds people together.

If you haven't learned a music instrument, now is the time.
20. Don't compare yourself with others.

You are only running the race against yourself.

Everyone is eventually on their own.

There is no point in comparing you with others.

Just focus on your own improvement each day.
21. Don't worry too much about the outcome, spend your time thinking about the journey instead.

Enjoy the journey.

You can't life twice.

Don't take things too serious.

And take your time to smell the roses along the way.
