First, 3/4 of K-12 students have the option for in-person instruction (either traditional or hybrid). 43% of students currently enrolled in school have the choice between traditional and remote; 33% have the choice between hybrid and remote; 24% can only do remote instruction 2/
Next, there are big differences in who has access to in-person instruction. Among white, Black, and Latino students, those whose parents have bachelor's degrees (BAs) are more likely than those whose parents don't have BAs to have the option for in-person instruction. 3/
When given the choice between traditional and remote instruction, most families take the in-person option (69%). That's especially true for families where at least one parent has a bachelor's degree (76% of white students; 86% of Black students; 67% of Latino students). 4/
When given the choice between hybrid and remote instruction, fewer families take the in-person option (62%). Here, white students whose parents have a bachelor's degree are most likely to choose hybrid (78%). All other groups are more inclined to stick with remote instruction. 5/
