What defies logic is thinking that cheap, convenient, tasty foods with labels that proclaim "no cholesterol/sat fat/fat" "low sodium" "whole grain" - as many of these products do - is *not* related to gov guidance that told people what they should think is "healthy." https://twitter.com/whsource/status/1357443658794995715
Many gov documents from the 80s call for the food industry to make *more* cheap, tasty, convenient processed foods with low fat/cholesterol/sat fat/sodium, so that people would have something else to eat besides scary bacon, eggs, & pork chops.
BTW, the food industry complied.

I agree many other factors are involved, but the notion that dietary guidelines have no effect on our food environment or eating habits "defies logic." WTF do you think that guidance is for otherwise?
If it has NO effect on our diets, we can safely get rid of all of it!

And, no, you do not need to know about the DGA to have your eating habits influenced by them. Food advertising does that work for us.
Our very notions of "healthy diet" were created by the DGA & promoted by food marketing. Prove me wrong.
