Longtime school closures cause major psychological harm to children. School closures also affect their education, future prospects in life and cause further inequality in society. The long-term economic harm of school closures will be felt by all.

School closures are not particularly effective #COVID19 suppression measures. Younger children are at very low risk to #COVID19 themselves, and transmit less readily than adults, even when only limited precautions are taken.
Those who carefully considered the available evidence and evaluated the wider cost / benefit balance of school closures generally reached the conclusion that schools should be among the last things to close and the first to reopen.

To me, questioning whether schools should be open is not even a morally and ethically valid perspective, irrespective of political leanings and ideology. Instead, the focus should be on the least invasive measures that can be taken to minimise transmission in school settings.
