The day that COULD’VE ruined me ...

This is about a goof and a pinky sprain.

(Just a pinky, but interesting story ...)

👇
This week, I was going to test my one rep maxes on the bench press, squat, and deadlift.

I’ve been working hard on a program for the past 14 weeks, and this was a HUGE week for me.

Imagine prepping for an exam for the last 3 months ... that kind of huge.
There were 3 tests this week:

Bench press on Monday,

Squat on Tuesday,

Deadlift on Friday.
Monday’s bench press went well.

I had a huge personal best and shared it through a tweet already.

Super stoked about that!!
Tuesday was squat.

Warmups went great.

As I was going to squat my personal best, a mirror came falling down (weird as heck, what a coincidence)

As it came falling, I stopped it from shattering on the floor.

Unfortunately, my pinky got caught while saving the mirror.
My pinky got completely crushed and it KILLED.

I couldn’t bend it and was bummed because I couldn’t squat anymore (yes, you need your pinky to squat).

All the hard work I put in for the last 3 months felt wasted,

Because I couldn’t test my squat OR deadlift.
As the day went on, I realized how random of a coincidence that was.

The mirror came falling down right as I was about to hit a personal best,

When it could’ve fallen at any other time of the day.

24 hours in the day, and it decided to fall at THAT moment.
The more I thought of the situation, the funnier it sounded.

I started laughing at the situation instead of being bummed.

This was such a random scenario that I couldn’t have scripted it any better!

What I realized was that testing my maxes wasn’t truly that important ...
I had already won by pushing myself the last 14 weeks.

I’ve gotten stronger without a doubt.

I’ve worked on becoming the best version of myself.

Yes it sucked that I couldn’t test my squat and deadlift, but I already won.
I could be super bummed out and let it affect me,

But it makes more sense to laugh off the situation and move on.

If I dwell on it, then I just make my day (or weeks) miserable.

Instead, let’s move on and work around this situation
I want this lesson to be about your mindset and how important it is to be positive.

We can look at this scenario and think:

“Wow, I’m so unlucky and now I can’t improve!”

OR

“What a funny situation, we’ll get better for next time!”
When you have a goal and run into a road block,

Don’t get down that the road block happened.

Instead, be happy that it taught you a lesson!

Find ways to work around it and get better for the future ...

No matter how random the situation 🤣
