So, I reckon there's a spectrum of views on COVID. Call it the axis of smiley. In the middle, there's what I reckon is the centrist position: we don't like lockdowns, but deaths and cases are way too high, so can live with it for a bit while we vaccinate as many people as we can.
And to be honest most people are somewhere near there. I think we're mainly arguing about the timing, but if you plotted a histogram of people's views they'd look pretty bell-shaped, with only a few people off in both the fringes.
But because of the way it's reported, because of the way that extreme views are so loudly expressed, because polarised debate works well for ratings and clips that can be shared, I reckon if you plotted a graph of how often these views are represented in the media you'd get this.
But honestly, I reckon Astra Zeneca has made everyone a Centrist Dad.
