How do you know you’re burning out?
Burnout has three components:
1. emotional exhaustion
2. disconnection/depersonalization from work
3. a snuffed out sense of accomplishment & absence of purpose

How it shows up: apathy, avoidance, insomnia, fatigue, cynicism, lateness, performance issues, unresponsiveness
Burnout is a serious problem that can’t simply be fixed with ten days sitting on a beach somewhere. Often times people take a quick hit of oxygen and jump right back into the same fire they were in before without changing anything.
People hear a stress alarm, smell and even begin to choke on burnout smoke, but elect to sit in the fire. The heat becomes familiar. Grabbing an extinguisher is deemed “too hard.” Escape through a window seems “too risky.”
You can’t conquer burnout without change. Truly caring for yourself requires commitment and demands that you make life choices with courage.
