The work of online teaching is hugely demanding. However, with careful design and a resistance to perfectionism, we can shift the locus of responsibility so that students and teachers are working together on most of these aspects. Education is a collaboration with students. https://twitter.com/timbocop/status/1348651874224889858
Let students help you to build your bank of readings and resources. Use things that are already out there, brought together into coherence through the careful design of tasks and projects. Get students to run sessions and support them to do a good job of it.
Don’t force students to demonstrate everything they do or to jump through hoops. Suggest activities and be interested in-but not overly controlling of-how these activities are done. Ask to see work, not for the purpose of enforcing compliance, but through genuine interest.
Ask students to look at each other’s work in progress, let them work together when they want to. Again, with careful assessment design, you can still make sure individuals are learning and demonstrating that learning.
To managers and leaders: this is the support that is most lacking for teachers: pedagogical help in designing online teaching in such a way that it is effective, manageable and enjoyable. This is where urgent investment should be placed, not in tools or content production.
