Every new grad student should know how to "CV Snoop" because it leads to $$ and opportunities.

So here's a quick walkthrough of how you do it (Thread):

#AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter #gradschool #PhdLife
1. Find some people you admire in your field

You can start with people who write papers you like and look at their students, coauthors, other people at the same institutions. Sometimes this is easy with early-career folks because we tend to put more things on our CV lol
2. Track down their CVs

Look on their websites, faculty pages where they teach, places where they have fellowship. If all else fails, google [Name] CV filetype:pdf
3. Make a list of the grants, fellowships, awards, honors, courses, workshops they've attended

These show up all sorts of places on different people's CVs, so poke around a bit
4. Look them up

Most you won't qualify for or be ready for *right now*, some are institution-specific, some won't be for your career stage, you might not be eligible... But put the ones you will be eligible for now and in the future into a spreadsheet or folder
5. Apply!!!!!

I can't stress this enough. So many people, particularly #Underrepresented students like me, take ourselves out of the running before we even have a chance. Take it as a chance to practice communicating yourself and your research, with the possibility of success.
Bonus: If you need/want eyes on your application, you also have a ready-made list of people you got this award in the past, which also gives you an excuse to reach out to people you already admire!
I give this advice to my undergrad students and grad school friends all the time, and it always leads to some new grant or opportunity.

I found out about the @ESIPfed community fellowship this way, and that fellowship has 100% changed my career path and opened so many doors
