A habit formation is defined by FOUR stages:
1. Cue
2. Routine
3. Reward
4. Belief
Because you are following me to become a better student or life-long learner. Let's take studying as an example.

STAGE ONE: CUE
The CUE is the reminder or the ON switch in your brain.
You remind your brain WHEN you should start that habit.
Take some time to think about what that could be in your case.
What are some of my suggestions?

Good CUES could be:
- Have a to-do list with (visual) reminders.
- Clean your desk the night before to make it study friendly.
- Prepare your study material and lay down that notebook on your desk as a visual cue.
- Use your calendar as a cue.

STEP TWO: ROUTINE
Define which steps will follow the cue.
Make these steps easy, simple and actionable.
Make them process driven instead of goal driven.

Example of a possible study routine:

STEP THREE: REWARD
You have internal and external motivation.
External motivation is when you get externally rewarded.
Internal motivation is when you feel rewarded by doing the activity itself.
Start with external motivation and move up to internal motivation.

Possible rewards can be:
- Incorporate enjoyable study techniques at the beginning and end of your session.

THE FINAL AND FOURTH STAGE: BELIEF.
You can motivate yourself all you want.
But
eventually you need to believe in the WHY of an activity.
This is how you turn learning into a lifelong journey.
