To give some context to the recent announcement of a new #SARSCoV2 variant/mutation, it may be helpful to realise that in the paper below we identified >12,000 variants/mutations in the first ~50k genomes and we're now at >250k genomes.

None of those mutations, with the possible debated exception of D614G, increases transmission. None has been shown to lead to more severe symptoms. A few reduce 'immune recognition' but not to an extent that they should, on their own, make current vaccines ineffective.

I understand there may be concerns about the evolution of #SARSCoV2 and we need to be vigilant. We can track newly emerging strains and update the vaccines when needed. Though, to the best of my knowledge, there is currently no cause for panic. I wish you all a lovely evening.
