The food industry has conditioned people into perceiving certain branding/imagery as healthier than the alternative

A few examples include green packaging, using grass imagery or advertising as grass-fed, and phrases like non-GMO on things like meat, which is never GMO

(thread)
Wild-caught or hunted seafood/game is generally the cleanest meat, though pollution is making that less true in some cases

Grass-fed on its own is worthless because (in the US) "grass" can still be used to refer to silage from non-organic grain crops
Organic grass-fed, or even better organic pasture-raised, are the highest quality certifications for meat and other animal products

That said though, some of the cleanest food available is from uncertified small local farms, this is especially true for eggs/dairy
Reach out to local farms or look for programs like CSA shares available in your area, farmer's markets are a great option too

There are many like-minded people when it comes to health, and often you can learn more about food by talking to someone than reading a label
When it comes to fruits or vegetables much of the same info is true

At the store look for non-GMO certification with foods that are most commonly GM like wheat/corn/soy, and organic when possible especially with high-pesticide crops like the "dirty dozen"
If you buy non-organic produce, a mixture of water and either baking soda or vinegar can be used as a cleaning solution, I'd recommend adding a food-safe surfactant as well

With non-organic meat focus on wild game/seafood as much as possible, and avoid low-quality beef and pork
Organ meats like liver store less toxins and more nutrients than any other part of the animal, even when non-organic, though seek out wild or organic organ meat instead whenever possible
At the end of the day just do whatever you can with the time and money you have available

In the long run the stress of constantly worrying about eating non-organic food is just as harmful as poor quality food itself
Start incorporating small changes like eating more seafood today, and set longterm goals for even bigger changes you want to make in the coming years

In my experience the better you eat the better you feel, spending a little extra time/money on food will always be worth it to me
