🧚 Do you feel stuck in therapy?

💡 Today, I’d like to chat about a therapy I use AND is important to know about – aaaand many people in therapy have never heard of.

It’s called #DBT, or Dialectical Behavior Therapy. [This isn’t an exhaustive explanation, but I hope it helps!]
🤩 I’m passionate about DBT as a type of therapy, because it teaches helpful emotional and interpersonal skills, using an organized approach.

Put another way, #DBT is designed to help you LIVE THE LIFE you want to be living.
⚖️ DBT balances accepting where we are, while changing what we want to change - that is called a "dialectical" worldview.

There are 4 components (also called “modes”) of treatment for #DBT, and DBT uses both group and individual therapy:
🥳 Individual: In Individual, you meet 1:1 with a therapist for a session and you go over your week. Discussing the week, we set priorities for what issues or problems you want to tackle.
🎣 Skills Class: A small group with other people, where 2 facilitators teach skills, specifically: #mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.

Put another way, skills class teaches you *how* to fish - to tackle problems in new ways.
☎️ Phone Coaching: DBT also includes phone coaching as needed. Just like an athlete gets coaching on the field, your therapist coaches you on the field that is your life with phone calls when needed. (🤯If there's no phone coaching, its not full DBT.)
🥇 TEAM (Therapy for the Therapists): Where the skills class leaders and your individual therapist come together to figure out how to be the most helpful in getting you to the LIFE YOU WANT TO BE LIVING. (Note: You don't go to TEAM, but therapists do. hey, they need support too!)
