I got sick of the end-of-the-term mad rush to turn in assignments.
What I realized is that I was creating that issue for myself because of my grading system. The only way for students to improve their grade was to turn in specific assignments.
I hated it, kids hated it.

Switching to standards-based grading has made this time so much less awful for me and students.
At the end of the term now, students determine which skills they need to improve.
After that, we can be flexible about how they show me they know it.

I tell my students, "If you know something better than your scores show, prove it."
My favorite way? A conversation (or a recorded video).
Every time I see teachers buried in late assignments, I recognize that it sucks and wish people recognized they can change it.
