I did plenty of 'free' meetings to offer advice whilst I worked for the university... those free consultation (because that's what they were) resulted in my work being used without permission, my ideas built upon without recognition and my presence used to tick boxes.

I'm learning the value of my intellectual property, my lived & professional experiences, & the spaces I am able to navigate within & outside institutions... this is why I charge for my time and the price is based on what I bring with me.

A good friend opened my eyes to this... as PoC and especially as Black women, we need to stop just asking for a seat at the table ... we need to recognise the value of what we bring to the table and be willing to walk away from spaces that do not serve us.
