A few miscellaneous thoughts on Substack.

(thread)
2/ I think the strategy of poaching big name writers onto the platform is just a (very very smart) GTM strategy.

Long term, the real value is creating 1m new content creators (especially who write analysis for a prosumer/B2B audience), not bringing 1m journos on the platform
3/ The bull case for Substack is that once they own the relationship with the content creators, there are 100 ways to monetize it.

The bear case for Substack is they don't actually currently own the relationship with the content creator.
4/ Because of that, Substack will so everything in their power to add value to creators such that switching costs become increasingly high.

Currently, they are not.
5/ In fact, this will be an issue the entire creator economy has to deal with. These platforms are built to empower the creator.

Empowering creator makes stickiness a challenge.
6/ As my good friend @rameeztase has said, how can you not root for Substack? I have lots of questions and thoughts, but I am a huge fan. https://twitter.com/rameeztase/status/1309131432288227330?s=20
