#AcWriMo participants (current and would-be hopefuls): inspired by my friend @drpetra and others, I am going to share a #WritingTip per day over the course of the next 30 days (well, during November).
In doing so, I'm going to point to blog posts I've written on the topic.

#AcWriMo #WritingTip Nov 1, 2020:
Writing is VERY HARD. But it doesn't have to be.
Set small goals: "today I am going to OPEN THE DOCUMENT I am supposed to be working on". Just that. Open the document.
Stay in touch with your writing project #AcWri http://www.raulpacheco.org/2020/04/staying-in-touch-with-your-writing-opening-the-document-on-a-regular-basis/

Once you've opened the document, establish the goal of working on it for a SHORT period of time.
Don't stress about writing for a full day.
15 minutes. 30 minutes (hat tip @jovanevery @digiwonk)

Be kind to yourself.

The bigger the goal, the more stressed you will be about it.
Set a small goal: "today, I am going to write 25 words".
Yes, TWENTY FIVE WORDS. Nothing more. Tomorrow you will write 50. #AcWri http://www.raulpacheco.org/2018/04/125-250-words-15-minutes-setting-small-writing-goals-to-build-an-academic-writing-practice/

Stressing over how many pages or words you still have to finish is somewhat counter-productive.
Why not choose a different metric of #AcWri success? Make completing sentences and paragraphs your writing goal http://www.raulpacheco.org/2017/12/a-different-metric-of-acwri-success-completing-sentences-and-paragraphs/

Whenever I feel stuck with my writing, I remind myself that "reading is writing". So, when I really, sincerely, honestly cannot write for the life of me, I READ. http://www.raulpacheco.org/2018/01/legitimising-reading-as-a-crucial-component-of-academic-writing/

Writing papers can be easier if we develop Initial Outlines and then flesh them out to craft Detailed Outlines which we can then use to finish papers. http://www.raulpacheco.org/2020/11/writing-papers-using-initial-outlines-and-detailed-outlines/

Instead of worrying about writing full papers, I suggest writing by memorandums http://www.raulpacheco.org/2020/04/writing-by-memorandums/
Each component of your paper can be a separate memorandum or a series of memos, all integrated. #AcWri #5amWritingClub

Reading and annotating and scribbling and highlighting and writing index cards and Cornell Notes all helps me “trigger” or “detonate” thoughts — so I use these strategies as prompts (see my next tweet for links to blog posts)

Resist the urge to turn on your computer and start typing.
Spend a few minutes with your readings, your notes, before turning the computer on.
Plan what you’re going to work on/write about.
Sketch the paragraph in your mind/on paper.
