We have ample data showing that when we don't follow good, ethical rules for science, it hurts us.

Take the 1976 swine flu vaccine debacle. We did not properly test the vaccine, because the government was rushing production. This resulted not only in harm of individuals, but also in distrust of vaccines.

Take the thalidomide scandal. Only through the foresight of @US_FDA employee Kelsey (a woman!) did we refuse to approve this off- label use on the US.
Nonetheless, it hurt 10,000+ babies across the world.

Just because someone in power wants something to be true, doesn't make it so.
So thank God that -- for now -- we have clinical trials and @US_FDA guidance to save us from the hucksters.
