News is emerging that significant numbers of garden staff are being made redundant @nationaltrust properties

Appalling consequences for these world-renown gardens @BorisJohnson @cj_dinenage for the following reasons

Thread:
They're often the main reason people visit properties
Gardens are prone to rapid deterioration with loss of manpower
Those still in post will have an impossible job to maintain their sites, their physical and #mentalhealth are therefore at risk
Many gardens already rely on #volunteer gardeners, they cover the jobs/hours the staff don't have capacity for

Volunteers are often in the more vulnerable #Covid19 categories and none are yet allowed back on site
Visiting gardens is good for you!

Our historic gardens provide physical and well-being benefits for visitors and volunteers alike

#mentalhealth #exercise #nature
These Historic gardens provide the setting for some of our nation's greatest architectural gems - the majority are Registered Grade 1, 2* or 2 in their own right on the @HistoricEngland #NHLE list
These gardens bring huge benefits to #local #tourism and #economies

@HuddlestonNigel
Our heartfelt sympathies go to those who are losing their jobs, despite their immense collective knowledge & hard work

To those who will attempt to make up the short fall

To those managers who have had the worst week of their careers, breaking the news to their loyal colleagues
