5 Tips to improve your deadlift!

THREAD
1 - Sub maximal singles

Common practice within powerlifting circles. Before main deadlift volume, load 85-95% and pull for a single.

Great way to practice the skill acquisition under heavier loads and build neural pathways, technical proficiency and confidence.
2 - Increase deadlift frequency

If you're killing yourself with one big deadlift workout per week, split the volume and increase frequency to 2x per week.

More chance to practice the skill of deadlifting and your reps will be of better quality. Technique = king.
3 - Paused deadlifts

I’ve never seen a more punishing variation. If your technique is sub-par, paused deadlifts will highlight that.

They are a great remedy to fix poor positioning habits that people have built up. Brilliant for building correct intramuscular coordination.
4 - Big back = Big deadlift

This is worth repeating.

Train the fuck out of the upper back.

Lots of rows, chins and pulldowns with varying grips.

Show me a big deadlifter with a tiny back?

There isn’t one.
5 - Refine your setup.

Use the same setup every time. Everything from walking up to the bar, taking your grip, bracing and the initiating of the pull.

Exerting maximal force is a skill.

Chase technical mastery over a long period of time.
Obviously there is no one size fits all approach with training and getting stronger is more nuanced than 5 tips.

But these tips may be helpful to someone out there struggling with their deadlifts.

Hope it helps!
