To clarify - I was referring to achieving herd immunity through vaccination someday.
This is not an alien virus. How it grows inside of us, how humans respond to it, and how it transmits have all been almost as textbook as it comes.
Thus, I believe immunity can be achieved.

Like essentially all childhood viruses - a first infection almost never results in very durable responses (measles is in its own class - and still needs a booster). 2nd, 3rd, 4th exposures are normal and help solidify long term memory. But the first hopefully helps w the 2nd, etc
