Here is an illustration of the *odd* way PH England has been reporting total Covid-19 deaths.

Remember they classify anyone who has EVER had a positive test as Covid-19 even if the test was months previously and/or the cause of death was completely unrelated.
The ONS all settings registered death data (also by date of death) now goes up to 10 July. At end of May, ONS and PHE were identical. After that ONS falls much more quickly than PHE.

E.g. on 7th July (later dates will be updated), ONS report 35 deaths whilst PHE report 63.
ONS data show that total Covid-19 deaths in England have been below 50 since 3rd July. That is consistent with what we knew from the NHS England hospital deaths series.

Also, the ONS data tell us the vast majority of Covid-19 deaths still happen in hospitals.
