"Only thing that matters is calories bruh"

"Calories in-calories out man"

"Eat less, move more bro"

Calories are important of course but it's not the whole thing

Your caloric intake is not the only factor that determines whether you gain or lose weight

1/9

[CALORIC THREAD]
In fact, how you take and when you take those calories are more important than the calorie count

For example,

You can still lose weight when you're in a caloric surplus

It's about which macros you choose to put into your system

2/9
Your body doesn't respond to calories

It does respond to the nutrients

1g sugar and 1g protein have the same calories

Yet your body doesn't respond equally to them

3/9
Time to prove this caloric surplus statement

First of all, I'm not a totally anti-carb person

I think carbs are useful for some people

Such as

-Highly active individuals
-Professional athletes
-People who are trying to build muscle

4/9
However, that doesn't mean they can't do it without carbs

They can, but it would be harder for most people

And low carb intake is not that much effective to build muscle compared to higher carb intake

Let's get into the study

5/9
This study conducted by the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition in 2018

It took a look 24 subjects that have 2 years of resistance training experience

It divided them into 3 groups

Ketogenic Diet (KD)
Non-ketogenic diet (NKD)
Control group (CG)

6/9
All three of them ate in a caloric surplus and did resistance training during the study

Results were pretty cool

KD group had a significant decrease in Fat Mass, Visceral Adipose Tissue and Total Body Weight (bad fat)

And no significant changes in Lean Body Mass

7/9
Finally

It all depends on what you're after

There are multiple ways to achieve one goal

You may lose weight with carbs too

Not my thing but you can do it
