Chaired a fantastic first virtual #JournalClub meeting this afternoon at Hounslow @westlondonnhs

Superbly presented by Dr. Sophie Stokes

@TheBJPsych paper and talking points👇🏿
Broad enthusiasm for effort to investigate relationship between #prenatal #stress and personality disorder
Would be valuable investigate effects of maternal infection, depression *diagnosis* and drug use on PD outcome in offspring, in addition to those confounders explored by authors
Wondered if maternal depression self-report measure used here used and validated elsewhere?
Interesting putative mechanistic account explored relating prenatal stress both to cortical and subcortical volume reductions and HPA axis dysregulation reported in PD. But unclear what would drive those changes, and how those changes would affect behaviour
Authors rightfully highlight that this sample captures only most severe personality disorder cases (those admitted to hospital)
Comparison of maternal stress with maternal prenatal depression as PD predictors would be informative
All in all, very interesting work with potential service-level implications (perinatal service provision, effective maternal stress management, psychoeducation etc.), but replication and determination of causality needed
