The role of स्कन्द in leading one to परमशिव/सदाशिव is something one finds in devotional hymns of the तमिऴ् saints. But it is not something that many realize. A real-life incident that stands as testimony to it:
About 20 years ago, in सिंहपुरी, a sick & injured puppy came to a temple of बाल-सुब्रह्मन्य for refuge. He would ever stay in the hall adjacent to that temple; never once transgressing the sacred boundaries set by the आगमम्.
The temple staff fed him & took him for regular medical check-ups. And all was fine, till about a decade ago, when he started acting weird. He will come near the ध्वजस्तम्भ & gaze at the कुमारदेव in the गर्भगृहम् intently.+
Of course, he will not interrupt prayers but he frequently started doing this & the staff were worried & surprised at the same time. Although exceptionally obedient to the priests & the staff, he would disobey them now; just to spend some time looking at कुमार; no one else.
And a few weeks later, on a quiet weekday morning (Wednesday I think), he was found lying in front of the sanctum of not स्कन्द but शिव, with his little hands outstretched towards महादेव!
Although he had been, right up to his final point, looking to solely स्कन्द for refuge, at that very last moment, the 6-headed शिव led him to the 5-headed father! //End
Again & again, अरुनगिरिनाथ alludes to शिवपदम् as the ultimate grace of स्कन्द.
