Daily reminder that Nazis weren’t “white supremacists” but German and Nordic supremacists specifically. They largely considered Slavs, who today would classify as “white”, as equal to Jews in terms of being non-Aryan untermensch races to be either exterminated or subjugated.
Aryanism wasn’t confined to merely having white skin. Iranians and Indians were considered Aryan races. Aryan is a term which means “nobility” first used by Indic and then Iranian people. Iranians were actually immune to the Nazi Nuremberg laws because of their Aryan descent.
Even though Hitler emphasized the Nordic look, this is one of the many contradictions in Nazi racial theories. Many Slavs & Jews fit that look perfectly and most Iranians did not. Yet Slavs and Jews were considered inferior races and Iranians were elevated as Aryans.
Mediterraneans, who also don’t fit the nordic stereotype, were considered among the “Aryan” races as “creative and imaginative” people. This was especially emphasized during the Nazi-Fascist alliance in WWII.
Some racial theorists like Evola fluctuated between the “spiritual race” and the “genetic race”, but overall emphasized a spiritual race that contradicted the Nazi system he was working for. He claimed “a Jew could have an Aryan soul and an Aryan could have a Jewish soul”.
Overall, Nazi racial theories were highly contradictive and today’s hysteria in the American mainstream media adds to this confusion by conflating white supremacy (an American concept based on black slavery) with a purely German racial theory.
This confusion has a lot to do with the historical illiteracy of many American pundits conflating anti-Semitism with Nazism. Even countries destroyed by Nazis like Poland experienced anti-Semitism before. Anti-Semitism has existed since the Roman Empire 2,000+ years ago.
