It was heartbreaking to do it, bit we didn't like what the UK is becoming.
A phone call, an email, and we got ourselves medical coverage. A visit to the bank and we've got a new account.
A trip to our local government office to register and we got... Well..

We didn't get threatened. We didn't get mountains of shit to fill in. We didn't get someone who was there to make it clear that there would be a #HostileEnvironment.

In fact we got a goodie bag.

With some degree of fear I looked inside, fearing a cruel joke. Alas...

An assortment of material to help us get started and settle more easily here. Including a book full of stuff to do and places to go, with vouchers.
A little booklet explaining a bit about the history of the local town, as well as bit about the stuff that happens here..
A postcard to send back to those we've left behind..
And whatever this is for.
My family, as high rate taxpayers, are now net contributors to a place which goes out if its way to be hospitable, not hostile. So we see our contribution as worthwhile and enlightened self interest.
Of course, they're helpful because it's in their enlightened self interest.

But its more than that. After being here for just two and a half months we actually *want* to support the town and its inhabitants.
The place has been so welcoming, and the people (including the government) so helpful that we can feel proud of being a part of the place.

What you're doing is creating a state which will ensure that immigrants can think of themselves, at best, as mercenaries and at worst as unwelcome and unsecure.
You're not building an enlightened nation, you're creating a mono-ethnic and culturally stagnant dystopia.

If you do not immediately reverse course on how you treat immigrants you will do significant and lasting damage to the UK's reputation, economy, society and culture.

Been a few months. Still feel much the same.
Additionally, quite a few Germans have commented or contacted me publicly or privately about this. *Not one* has complained about me being here, or complained that the above is a waste of taxpayers money.
