Rolling a ten sided die and an eight sided die and summing the values. You have 18 markers to place on the game board. Where you putting them?

Follow thread to see what unfolded in my #mbf3c class.

Here is some game boards from around the class before we did anything.
Then we partnered up and rolled and collected data. Crowd sourced the class data and got this.
Then we played the game again. Samples from around the room.
We then explored the theoretical probabilities and afterwards played one last time.

Overheard this between two S’s

S1 “Jeesh I was talking about math class over the weekend with my family.”
S2 “No shit. Me too”

Mr. O presents with a massive smile!

75 minutes!
Stay tuned for tomorrow when we roll a 20 sided die and a 12 sided die.

Curious if S’s will be able to place markers better earlier tomorrow?

Curious if S’s will want to do some math1st?

Curious if S’s will want to do the experiment or just jump to theoretical?
So tomorrow is here.

I posed this problem to start.

Here is one groups work. They picked a 15 and a 17 sided die.
This group chose a 10 and a 22 sided die.
I then told the students I actually had a 12 and a 20 sided die.

They all wanted to do some math before they placed their 32 markers.

Pic of groups work.

We finished class playing the game.
Took a while to remove 32 tokens.
I actually rolled snake eyes 4 times!
Ohs and ahs.
