The Myth of Black Pride vs White pride:
From the inception of chattel slavery in the Americas, black people have been told that they’re animals, lesser than, not good enough, not as beautiful as, etc. Black pride is an attempt to deconstruct such notions #NotSuperiority #equality
Black Pride is saying, you tell me I’m not good enough, but I won’t let you tell me how to feel about myself. I don’t feel bad about being black, in fact, I’m proud of it and wouldn’t want to be anything else. #ThisIsntHatred
White Pride has traditionally been rooted in the notion of being superior, better than, presiding over. It is rooted in Slavery and colonization on every inhabitable continent on Earth! So when you hear someone feel the need to express white pride, hatred normally follows.
It is unnecessary to express White pride because it’s understood. You SHOULD feel proud about who you are. But no one has ever tried to take your identity away, for you to feel the need to now assert it. Your culture was never stripped away and criminalized.
We should all be proud of ourselves, but being proud of ones heritage comes with acceptance. What is it my ancestors or even recent family did to tilt the scales severely in my favor, whether I’m poor or rich? How can I give back to make this WORLD a better place?
