In honor of Dick Cheney's bday, I would like to pay tribute to one of my beloved uncles, my dad's older brother, who punched DC in the face during college for being drunk and disorderly in my grandparents' house. /1
There were so many O'Malley siblings, they all lived at home, so the rule was: if you had a friend sleep over, he could not take the bed from another O'Malley sibling. You can't kick your brother out of his own bed. Well, DC would NOT get out of my uncle's bed. /2
My uncle was like, "Hey. Get the hell out of my bed." DC, b/c he was not raised right, b/c he was drunk, responded w/a version of "F*** you." It went from there. Instead of having MANNERS, b/c you were in SOMEONE ELSE'S HOUSE, he pitched a fit. My uncle responded in kind. /3
Ka-POW. Other O'Malley brothers got involved, in order to restrain the drunk interloper in the O'Malley home. Boston Irish brothers. Don't act like this in our home, drunkie. KA-POW. /4
He was thrown out of the house. Good riddance. DECADES later, every single time he would show up on TV, in this or that political campaign, my grandmother, watching, would say, cigarette in hand, "That boy could not hold his liquor." The End.
If you would like to see what Dick Cheney was up against, here's a glimpse of what he faced (albeit 15 or so years later).
I mean, you gotta be STUPID to "act out" surrounded by THAT.
