Following is a thread of my learnings on the construction of affordable houses to the poor under PMAY in AP.
Under the PMAY-NTR Nagar housing scheme, the state government would construct about 1.93 Lakh houses for the urban poor in the state.

The construction has started in all the municipalities across the state. Thousands of houses are allocated for each municipality. Contracts awarded to the best in infra development like NCC, L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji etc..
A layout from the field visit. Planned with adequate open space, amenities and other community infra. Parking space, PHC, Primary school are part of the plan with scope to provide more for future development. It is more than just a house construction.
Though the houses are small, they will be adequate for a poor family with basic needs. Owning an affordable shelter for a poor family is more than any luxuries. Safe from all natural calamities in a clean environment with great community infra.
Construction is being done with Shear wall technology with use of steel and reinforced concrete. No bricks at all. This technology is generally used in earthquake prone countries.
Multiple teams work on different blocks concurrently. You would see almost all stages of construction in different blocks any day. Here is one for which the foundation just got complete. Walls will be raised from the reinforcing bars seen in the picture.
Here is the construction of the first floor. Steel frames which are as per the house design will be fixed internally and externally with reinforcing bars between them. Entire cavity will be filled with concrete after the fixture is complete.
Steel frames are imported stuff.

Ready-mix concrete is used and there is an RMC plant within the construction site reducing lot of time and effort.
There is a concrete pumping machine as well dedicated to this site. Construction is done round the clock with multiple shifts.

Shuttered lifts method is used in the construction. In this method, walls are formed one story at one time together with the columns. This technique produces a premium finish quality or texture. As construction moves to the next floor, the curing would start for bottom one.
I was said that the entire construction in the site will be closed by March 2018. Every three weeks they complete a block. It is mind blowing speed. Its just marvellous that the govt. is constructing quality houses with the best technology and at greatest speed.
There was a big labour camp setup for the workers of this construction. Labour from UP, Bihar and many parts of the country take part in this.
All the window spaces are part of the steel structure which is predesigned. Electrical wiring is done through the cavity before the concrete is filled. Literally, there is no requirement of drilling and breaking post raising the structure.
Aluminium sliding windows are provided with extreme durability. The walls are so soft that they do not require a layer of plastering. Needless to say that they are extremely strong too. Corridors are wide as well.
Once completed, this is how the interiors will look like. No kidding, these are from similar construction which was completed.
State government @AndhraPradeshCM @ncbn does an outstanding job in building houses for poor. Beneficiaries I spoke to are extremely happy for their new houses and eagerly waiting to move to them at the earliest. If this is not development, I don't know what is.
From another muncipality.. almost completed blocks. https://twitter.com/GangadharThati/status/949564555188846593
One more from an actual site in Nellore. https://twitter.com/rakitweets/status/981552099690508288?s=21
Here's an update from the leader himself. Watch this video https://twitter.com/ncbn/status/998106816612450304
Here are the completed buildings from the same site where initial construction pictures are shown. Roads which are wide enough are being laid out. Could’ve been completed by now as these pics were couple of months old.
Check out the interiors. Nothing less than a flat we normally buy. In fact, the quality is superior to the brick/blocks construction. Shelves, vitrified tiles, granite top kitchen....
Here are the fixtures.. Fan, tube light, switch boards, bathroom fittings... Quality products without any compromise.
