The Proto Indo European root that the #Latin word descends from, *ǵenh₁- (to produce, to beget, to give birth to), is the origin of numerous words in #Sanskrit as well - jana, jananī, jāti, among many others.
Numerous #English words stem from the same root, both from its native Germanic stock, and Latinate/Greek loan vocab - King, kin, kind, kith from the former category; germ, gene, gonad, genus, gender, progenitor, nature from the latter.
Most major #IndianLanguages of course, have loaned 'Christmas' from English, assimilating the loan to fit native phonology.
This is in contrast to #Gujarati, #Marathi, #Konkani, all languages spoken on India's west coast, that use names derived from the #Portuguese #Natal.

Interestingly, the Natal/Christmas split overlaps almost exactly with the batata/other-words-for-potato split.

Nātāḷ wishes in #Marathi. In #Konkani's case, Portuguese rule (& the Catholic church) makes it unsurprising that the lang uses Nātāḷ for #Christmas .
