I just realized one of the reasons why the new sprites in Capcom vs SNK looked so distinct. The majority of Capcom's 2d games use non square pixels, so they were meant to be stretched by the monitor. CVS was built for square pixels form the ground up!

I really really really liked the sprite style they had going in the Capcom vs SNK games. It had a cool seinen anime vibe, while also maintaining that distinct Capcom flavor. I wish they could have kept going with this style, but alas!

This might sound heretical, but i think the Capcom vs SNK shoto sprites are even better than the SF3 sprites in some ways!
