Ok so there is a very common thing that happens when fat activists talk about the history and harms of fad diets and especially when referring to specific ones

Someone eventually shows up to tell me that this diet is used by disabled people or ppl who have specific food needs.
This is very common.
I like to keep my comments to the group chat unless I see trends.

So I assure you, this is not about any one person.

But I would like to examine this tendency as a kind of soft derailing
Because the thing is-- disabled people and other people with specific foods needs should have access to the foods they need

That's basic decency and I do not consider that to be debatable

You're either gonna be a decent person & agree or you are a jerk and you need to leave pls
But the access of disabled people to the food that they need should not be based on maintaining a culture of fatphobic discrimination

Discrimination that can be deadly

Because for one thing, fat people can be disabled...

hi hello it's me
It should be ENOUGH to ask that people have access to the types of food they need

It shouldn't be based on the continued -very extreme- harms done to fat people every day
The truth of where these diets come from is just the factual history of why they exist.

Fat activism really isn't trying to take any kind of foods off the market by noting that Diet Culture is a lying liar who lies

...y'all do know that right?
I literally don't care what any individual person eats unless I am dining with them and need to be mindful of accommodations

Otherwise, like do you.

I do not care, it's literally not my business

A large point that fat activism is trying to make is that it ISN'T my business
It genuinely is not anyone's place to get weird with people about what they eat

The entire culture needs a massive lesson in which business it is yours to mind
I see disability activism and fat activism as very much linked and with compatible goals.

But what I don't see is many disability activists who seem to feel the same way.

And that bums me out a lot and so I generally don't involve myself in those discussions
It's like pretty painful how much social justice activism does not care about how fat people are harmed

So I disengage a lot of the time for my own mental health.
I have had some nasty nasty experiences with disability Twitter and I just don't need that

I have been getting shit from all sides for so long...

I just get tired
I just want people to think about this and what it means to me as a fat person and a fat activist

To have this happen repeatedly over the course of many years
