Reflections on #APPIC #MatchDay: One of the most anxiety-provoking experiences in life. The thought that a whole year could be “wasted” based on a computer algorithm. The impostor phenomenon that you’re finally going to caught for being a fraud. The fear of shame in not matching.
The #APPIC system (like most systems) is set up for many people will fail. There literally aren’t enough sites for the # of applicants! And even if you do match, we are celebrating an opportunity to work 40+hours a week and get paid less than $20K. Is this training or hazing?
Either way, congrats to all who matched on #APPIC. You did it! You beat the system. Go celebrate. Tell your family members- even the ones who don’t know what a psychology internship is. Breathe. Get some sleep. Work off that hangover. 😉 You’re one step closer to that doctorate!
To those who didn’t match today, please try not to internalize. It’s a systemic problem. Please know that 10 years out, no one will remember who matched where and if you matched on your first try. Just get that degree soon & use it for good. #APPIC #MatchDay
