About to write a load of stuff about Ted Cruz and then had a huge hit in the chest of memories (and nostalgia) for Texas. The smart, funny, endlessly smiling and tiny detail complex of Texas. Texas is not Ted Cruz, and he is not Texas.
Texas is amaaaazzzing. It's not lads with guns and the big talk (well, it is but no one cares about them). Amazing. The people are kindness itself.
On my first trip to Dallas - the election of Dubya, that's how old I am - I was so lonely you cannot imagine. I'd spilled tea on myself on the plane. Spent the night, in the Hilton, watching an ancient tv with all of the breakfast staff, who only spoke Spanish.
The whole night. When Florida came in we all looked at each other, and the lady whipped a little pinny on me and told me to get on with the eggs. YES, I cooked the eggs that day. I apologise.
