I would like to believe that the next generation of filmmakers are gonna help make the industry more diverse and progressive, but being in film school and seeing how me and every other female film major (especially WoC) are treated by male film majors is disheartening
If these men feel it is ok to disregard our opinions, talk over us, condescend us, and ignore our knowledge and expertise now in a college classroom setting where we are supposed to be equals as students, I do not hold much hope for how they will feel on set working with us
I am tired of seeing some of the smartest, most talented, and creative women I know be torn down by other film majors for no other reason than that they are women who hold a different opinion
Women, people of color, LGBT+, and disabled film majors need to be respected and given the same courtesies that I am seeing white and/or male film majors give to one another as we all learn, create, and prepare to enter the film industry
Finally it’s not just the ones that actively harass female and POC film majors that need to change but also the ones who just stand by and watch it happen, the ones that play devil’s advocate, the ones who don’t want to “pick a side”. You chose your side by letting us be silenced
