A lobbyist with close links to the Conservative Party spent almost £65,000 on anti-Jeremy Corbyn and anti-Labour attack ads from a third party campaign group during the 2019 election campaign, new figures have revealed. #LabourLeaks #ChickenCoup
Former Tory intern Jennifer Powers told the Mirror she had partly funded the Facebook and Instagram ads herself, and raised money through “donations” - but refused to name the sources of her funding. #LabourLeaks #ChickenCoup
Ms Powers, whose WhatsApp profile picture shows her standing outside 10 Downing Street, told the Mirror she has volunteered for the Tories “from time to time” - but denied there had been any co-ordination with the party, or any other campaign group on the ads. #LabourLeaks
“They don't ask my opinion on electoral strategy,” she said, adding that it was a “kitchen table operation.” Asked if she thought £65,000 was a lot of money to raise and spend within two months, Ms Powers said: “That’s an absolutely subjective view. Who can say?. #LabourLeaks
Willie Sullivan, Senior Director of the Electoral Reform Society said: Once again we see questions raised about the murky world of online campaigning and just who is behind the ads that target voters during election time. #LabourLeaks
