I’m not saying you have to say something: this is your choice. But if you can @ the ISU about scoring, you can @ the ISU about how dangerous holding Worlds would be to the skaters, coaches, officials, support staff, bus and taxi drivers, hotel staff, housekeeping staff, etc.
All you need to be allowed into the “bubble” is a negative test shortly before travel and another test upon arrival. If someone contracts covid in transit, they will not test positive on arrival, and since there is no quarantine period, that person will likely infect others.
This is why the “other sports have been able to successfully implement bubbles” argument fails — there is no quarantine period.
Worlds got canceled last year when Montreal was faring dramatically better than Stockholm is faring now. Multiple skaters have spoken out about how hard recover has been, and some may have permanent lung damage. One skater has already retired due to covid.
The choice is obvious, yet @ISU_Figure refuses to make it. ISU, you haven’t stepped up for your skaters all season. But you can do it now before even more of the people you are tasked with protecting end up in the hospital. It is not too late to do the right thing.
“We required not one, but two negative tests” will not cut it as an excuse if people who were there test positive in late March, because the problems with your “bubble” were entirely foreseeable. It certainly won’t bring the infected skaters’ careers (or perhaps even lives) back.
Make the right choice. You know what it is. I think Worlds should be canceled, but at the very least, #NoQuarantineNoWorlds
Also, @PoohPalooza made a really great point just now. As great as it would be to convince the ISU to cancel Worlds through our complaints, that’s not the true goal of this: we know how unlikely that is. The goal is to be noisy enough about how dangerous this is that more
powerful forces — such as media outlets and the ISU’s sponsors — put pressure on the ISU. They are much more likely to change the ISU’s minds than we are.
If anyone has a current list of the ISU’s sponsors, I would be happy to circulate it and reach out to them!
And also, if any of you have media contacts, consider using them for this!
Sorry if this is incoherent. I have been very sick latrly and am extremely sleep-deprived today. I am just saying that if you are already complaining about this on your own account, why not take the extra few seconds to target it at the people who should be hearing this?
Centralizing and targeting our complaints can only help.
