Today is also the last opportunity for the Home Office to wilfully demonstrate to male victims & survivors of child sex abuse, rape, domestic violence & other intimate crimes EXACTLY how they are excluded & marginalised from the strategic framework which purports to support them. https://twitter.com/ukhomeoffice/status/1362445892494712832
If you're not following the Alice in Wonderland madness here, in 2010 the Home Office launched a national strategy to combat 'Violence Against Women and Girls.' Sometime around 2012 it emerged that they were including crimes against men and boys in the strategy. >
Male survivors & their representative orgs were never consulted - or even informed - that this was happening. After years of campaigning, in 2019 the Home Office finally issued a 'Position Statement on male victims of VAWG crimes' which made several commitments. >
One of which was that "all communications [re: VAWG] would be fully inclusive of men and boys." And for the past two months they have been promoting a consultation on THIS VERY STRATEGY which has repeatedly & egregiously ignored their own commitments IN THE SAME STRATEGY.
And that's why, if you have a moment and any relevant interest in the issue, please participate in this call for evidence & tell them that it really isn't good enough. Because it isn't.
And if you need any more inspiration or information, the Men & Boys Coalition response to this consultation has just gone up here http://www.menandboyscoalition.org.uk/newsevents/mbc-response-to-open-consultation-violence-against-women-and-girls-vawg-strategy-2021-2024-call-for-evidence/
