drivers are WORKERS (intermediate status btw employee & self-employed). This landmark decision arrives 1 year after France's highest court ruled that Uber drivers are employees. Massive win for #gigeconomy workers!

'Worker' status under English law requires a contract 'for services' and is still a form of self-employment - but one that guarantees fundamental rights like the minimum wage, holiday pay, and protection against discrimination.
#Uber failed FOUR TIMES in six years to convince judges that their drivers are self-employed. No amount of 'twisted' or 'fictional' language in their contracts could fool the courts that a work relationship existed in practice. 1000s of other drivers' claims can now be heard.
Congratulations to the claimants, trade unions and legal team. This is a victory for all workers. A victory for decency. There's still a long way to go before we win the global battle for decent work in the gig economy, but workers and their reps are ready. #futureofwork
