'Twas the night before Gameday, when all through the park,

The Jungle was not stirring, the stadium was all dark.
The field was manicured to perfection with care,

In knowledge that Opening Day soon would be there.
The Pirates were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of victories danced in their heads.
An extended offseason finally coming to a cap,

Clark-LeClair had been through a long winter's nap.
When out on the diamond there arose such a clatter,

1-9 down the line, the Pirates had batters.
Fire those cannons! These boys could mash!

And in these confines, web gems they would flash.
Out of the pen, the hurlers were ready to go,

Heaters, curveballs, and sliders they would throw.
At long last, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But the boys of summer in the purple and gold gear.
And finally in the box, #23 would approach,

I knew in a moment that it must be our coach.
And across the whole world, the Pirate Nation came,

And whistled and shouted and called them by name:
"Now Franny! Now Kuchmaner! Now, Smith and Hoov!

On, Bridges! On, Worrell! On, Ryder and Mayhue!
To the top of the step! To the top of the wall!

Welcome to the Jungle! Let’s Play Ball!"
