Alright I guess it’s time to do another Smash community rant. This is like the 4th time in recent memory that I’ve felt the need to do this. Realistically a lot of what I’m about to say has already been said but hopefully it gives people some new perspective.
1/???
1/???
First off, the characters themselves. This isn’t really important so I’m just getting it out of the way. I can understand being excited for the character, I can understand being disappointed. Frankly, I don’t care as long as you can respect how other people feel. WHY people are
excited about them is... questionable depending on who you’re talking to, but having played XC2 I do think there are valid reasons to enjoy the character that go beyond anime tiddies, both from a character perspective and a gameplay perspective. That being said, Elma’s better

As for their design... look, if that’s what you’re into then go off, idrc, as long as this isn’t how you treat real women it’s fine. That being said, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. Not only does it make people super uncomfortable whether or not you’re fine with it, but what you need to
understand is that there are people who DO treat real women like that, and when you have a bunch of people being publicly horny over a fictional character, EVEN IF YOU YOURSELF AREN’T A PREDATOR, people who are will see that and one of two things will happen. If they are
self-reflecting and coming to terms with the fact that the way they act is wrong, they will see what the community is doing and think “nvm, this is normal, look at this community of people that all do the same thing, i will stop changing my ways now”. If they aren’t even trying
to change, they’ll just think “oh yeah these are my kinda people” and now we have more predators in the community. Either way the end result is the same. The people who weren’t comfortable with a hypersexual community in the first place are now even less comfortable because we’ve
attracted actual predators instead of just people joking about being horny, and if you think I need to explain why people unironically being objectified is a problem, please fuck off and block me, thanks.
And finally, there’s the supposed “double standard” that Intro brought
And finally, there’s the supposed “double standard” that Intro brought
up. Frankly, this take is stupid, but I can understand thinking it isn’t, so it’s worth explaining. There’s a fine line between “haha he’s holding his meat” and “i actually want to have sex with the video game character because she have breast”, because
A. Guys it’s a steak.
B.
A. Guys it’s a steak.
B.
Even if it DID get as bad as “I want to screw Sephiroth it’s all I think about”, this frankly isn’t something people openly say about actual men. Yes, men do get sexually harassed, but not nearly to the same degree. Frankly I’d prefer it if we addressed all sexual harassment
instead of competing over who has it worse, but if we ARE going to be picking priorities, we should start with the one that happens to the majority of women.
ALSO, I forgot to mention this earlier but if you are attracted to fictional characters and don’t see what’s wrong with
ALSO, I forgot to mention this earlier but if you are attracted to fictional characters and don’t see what’s wrong with
being attracted to fictional characters, tl;dr: It sets up unrealistic expectations of real people. People are complex, they have aspects about them that you aren’t obligated to know about right away, they have sides to them that aren’t perfect, because no one is. Unlike
fictional characters, real people do not exist for your entertainment. If your idealized relationship is based on fiction, where the idea of, for example, getting into an argument in a relationship isn’t something you really see, of course you’re not going to know how to react
when it actually happens, and it’s not that unlikely for you to decide that “this isn’t worth it, it’s nothing like how id imagine a relationship would be like” and leaving that person because they couldn’t live up to an unrealistic expectation, and don’t even get me started on
standards for appearance.
Tl;dr: People, it’s a character in a video game. Stop:
A. Getting mad at people who are excited over it
B. Getting mad at people who aren’t excited over it
C. Being horny over it
D. Treating real people like you would it
