During Black History Month, so many pivotal people are glossed over. Marsha P. Johnson, LGBTQ+ activist, was a key figure at the Stonewall Riots. As a straight man, I never knew about the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. So, I read. Family and friends in that community deserve that.
Homophobia runs deep in the Black community. Hell, it runs deep in every community. It's ugly, considering many in the LGBTQ+ stand shoulder to shoulder with the Black community to fight for equality. Without fail, fighting alongside us. We must do better.
Equality is a concept that should be universal. It's not difficult. Yet, why do so many turn away?

Bigotry is ugly.
A former friend asked me once, what would I do if either of my kids came out. I wouldn't care. My love for my babies is unconditional and unwavering.
Activists like Ms. Johnson seemingly never received flowers while she was alive, yet history needs to respect her for being a trailblazer that fought convention and hate.
