We NEED to protect our community hubs. We NEED to put more into our communities, not take from them.

LONG AGO, I was lucky enough to be a part of a photography program at my local Community Centre. In a community plagued by gun violence, I was engaged. I was safe.
I used to spend every Saturday morning pretending I was good at basketball at any court I could find, including Eau Claire.

Finding good local community centres are getting less affordable and less accessible. The Y was a good option.
When I look to Ward 8, I must ask, how long till the eyes turn to the Beltline Aquatic and Fitness centre. Have we invested enough in it?
Does your community have the services you need? I grew up lucky enough to have a place to go. That is a reality I want every person who calls Ward 8 and Calgary home to know.
We knew Covid would leave a scar on our city. We heal with investments. Let’s put our money where our mouth is, we say we value community, so invest in it.
Oh and let’s not forget the implications on families. YMCA’s often offer childcare facilities.

I hate to see it go.
