For decades the criminal justice system has taken a harmful approach to drug offenses

It has over incarcerated Black, Indigenous & racialized Canadians

It has criminalized addiction

It has ripped families apart and destroyed the futures of so many

As a defence lawyer, I witnessed simple marijuana possession destroy the futures of so many young ppl

Today, Justin Trudeau could have given them their futures back

All he had to do was erase their criminal records for something that is no longer illegal

He refused to

We are losing ppl to the opioid crisis every day

The current approach has failed

Instead of helping those struggling with addiction with treatment, we have criminalized them

Today, Justin Trudeau could have decriminalized drugs & ended the stigma they deal with

He refused to

I want young ppl to have a future

I want Black, Indigenous and racialized Canadians to be treated fairly

I want those struggling w/ addictions to feel loved and to get the support they need

Justin Trudeau failed us today
