"Traits of a Good Listener" (with tips on how to improve)

🔥🤙 -THREAD-🔥🤙
1. They don't listen to respond

Good listeners don't focus on what they're going to say next

They focus on understanding and internalizing the conversation

They know that retaining all the info shared in the convo is the most important part of a conversation
Tips on how to IMPROVE

In your next call

Try acting like you aren't allowed to respond to the speaker

If you're not thinking about responding, your brain fully focuses on comprehending the message

You'll be listening to comprehend, not respond
2. They ask Follow-Up questions

An important part of listening is engaging with the speaker

Good listeners clarify and reiterate what the speaker is saying

They ask relevant questions to make sure they understand whats being communicated
Tips on how to IMPROVE

Next time you're having a conversation

Put an emphasis on making sure you are nodding and using physical cues to show the speaker you are interested and engaged
Don't focus on asking questions

Focus on constantly asking yourself "what do I need more clarification on?"

When you answer that question, then you have created your question

This makes the questions much more relevant and productive
3. They're fully present

Being present means that you're fully engaged in the moment

You aren't thinking about what was said in the past

You're not anticipating what you'll say next

You're processing information as it's told to you

The current convo has your full attention
Tips on how to IMPROVE

-Avoid distractions such as your phone or outside noise

-Maintain good eye contact

-Take notes during the conversation (mentally or physical notes)
3 benefits of being a good listener

1. You'll be more focused
2. You'll build stronger relationships
3. You'll process information better
