You know what would make #Winnipeg (and everywhere) better? Loving and/or supporting things that you have not person "stake" in or use for. Eg: know what I love about our city? The winter river trails, the warming huts, the whole "Forks in winter" vibe. But here's the thing:
I *never* go on the river trails. I love architecture and the "warming huts" but I don't want to go see them. It's just not my thing (crowds) or my dog's thing (crowds). But I LOVE them. I think they are a part of making our city not just LIVABLE but enjoyable.
Living in a place where people can live and thrive should be our #1 priority.
It's why social housing and supports is something everyone should get behind = More livable, more thriving.

It's why I support bike infrastructure and transit (even if I'm currently a walker and driver).
There is too much discourse that we should be advocates only if we are personally affected now or in the past.
Don't get me wrong: public policy needs to be informed by people with lived experience, people who are directly impacted. Policy needs to be led by community.

But building places for everyone, and supporting "the awesome"? (I include social housing in the awesome.) That is for everyone to get behind.
Imagine a city that is like that?
A *neighbourly* city?
I want to live there.
