I think it's pretty disgusting to see people promoting a job guarantee in the middle of a pandemic where the problem isn't that jobs don't exist but that people don't have income to buy food + pay rent. Just get people money. People shouldn't have to clap like seals for survival.
My life does not belong to you. My life is mine. You don't get to support a system of private property that forces me to obtain money to exist, and tell me I don't have a right to enough money to exist. And you definitely don't get to withhold money, and offer me a job guarantee.
Before Covid hit, we were surrounded by jobs that didn't need to exist at all. We are also twice as productive as a society as we were in 1973, and yet instead of working half as much for just as much, we're earning the same for the same time and demanding more jobs?
Fuck that.
Fuck that.
We have to free ourselves from this job-centric paradigm. More work is not the answer to wage slavery. The demand should be for freedom, not more masters. We are owed our dividend share of GDP. Fight for what's yours. Fight for the right to *refuse* jobs. https://medium.com/basic-income/cutting-the-gordian-knot-of-technological-unemployment-with-unconditional-basic-income-e8df7f8eaa16
Also, before we start guaranteeing work, why don't we first start recognizing all unpaid work? All the unpaid caregivers out there aren't praying that someday they'll be offered a job in childcare.
What they'd like is recognition they're doing childcare. https://scottsantens.substack.com/p/a-pandemic-is-a-great-time-to-stop
